QuickGrip Torque Activated Core Chucks

  Self expanding grippers lock securely on to the core wall when web tension is applied. Load capacity of up to 8,800lbs (4,000kg). The Schlumpf QuickGrip features quick change adapter collar system for fast core changes with no tools and an easy service feature so the chucks can be maintained without the need to remove them from the machine.

Schlumpf Type SDE pneumatic concentric core chucks areour most popular design and offer unparalleled flexibility and efficiency in paper, film and foil manufacturing and converting operations.

Schlumpf core chucks are pneumatically actuated and mechanically expanded. Precise, mechanical expansion holds heavy rolls with paper, plastic, metal and metal capped cores securely, without slippage, with the highest degree of concentricity, which in turn allows unwinding or rewinding at high speeds with less vibration, with little or no core damage or change in web position.

Schlumpf core chucks also operate independent of web tension, so chucking force remains constant regardless of tension. This is especially important when processing light, inextensible materials, or when driving the unwinding or rewinding roll.

SDE core chucks offer the highest torque capacity of any available core chuck. The SDE’s large air piston and powerful mechanical expansion often embeds the chuck’s expansion segments or “grippers” deeply into the core wall, thus forming a fit between the chuck and the paper core not unlike that of a spline. As such, even the heaviest materials can be processed at high tension without fear of core slippage.

SDE chucks are offered in “base” sizes, such as 3” or 6”, and can be quickly and easily adapted to larger core sizes by sliding a quick change adapter collars over the nose of the base chucks. Adapters are added in seconds, with one small tool, and with minimal effort. It is not uncommon for converters to handle 4”, 5”, 6”, 8”, 10” or 12” cores with a single set of 3” base chucks.

SDE core chucks are available for any core size, inch or metric, for roll weights to 17,000 lbs (7,700 kg). Thousands of custom designs are available to suit any application.

SDE core chucks also offer Easy Service™ features. Easy Service allows the operator to quickly and easily clean and inspect the core chuck and its internal components, or replaced common wear parts, without removing the chuck from the machine.
